Transmitted by skin contact, the SVE-1 virus is highly contagious. It causes a vicious condition known as Grim Fever, which has killed all those infected—everyone but Chad Chaucer. Burdened with the lethal virus, Chad’s only chance of survival is by infecting others, which grants him a temporary reprieve from Grim Fever’s brutal symptoms. But Chad faces the impossible choice of doling out death sentences he is loath to execute. A solitary life has him near his breaking point, and the answerless question continues to plague him:
